Iran nuclear weapons

Oil prices have reached an all time high today after UN and US imposed sanctions on exported oil from Iran. Iran are enriching Uranium to make nuclear weapons, they have denied its for the use of nuclear weapons and say its for nuclear energy and research and development which I find very hard to believe.

UN and US imposed these sanction to minimise the revenue generated from oil sales, thus reducing funds to enrich uranium. Iran has closed the straight of Hormuz in which 20% of all oil is transported to the west. Now Iran has boosted protection of nuclear sites by testing and firing misciles throughout the gulf. Iran have now cut off all oil supply to UK and France.

What is you opinion on this? Its interesting to see the strategies used by both US and Iran to overcome these problems. Iran are in a far better position with the IAEA turning a blind eye to the enrichment process. This could spell WWIII. Israel already have nuclear weapons but have not signed the treaty. My guess would be that Iran will nuclear bomb Israel within the next 3-5 years.

Now the president of Iran said that a ban of oil supply to Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Germany and Netherlands.

So who gives the right to one country to own nuclear weapons and enrich uranium and not to another?

Honestly, I dont want to hear argument "We will not use it." Im sure everybody remembers Hiroshima and Nagasaki and if WW3 came along those weapons would be used again.

this stuff is inevitable in the face of finite resources and global capitalism (IMO) but i can't see the israelis standing for it for very long - to the point where they could well strike hard and pre-emptively

Doesn't Israel have a nuclear bomb?

Yes. Israel, however, is not a party to the NPT, so is not obliged to report to it. Neither are India or Pakistan, both of which have developed nuclear weapons. North Korea has left the treaty and has announced that it has acquired a nuclear weapons capacity.

On 18 September 2009, the IAEA called on Israel to join the NPT and open its nuclear facilities to inspection. The resolution said that the IAEA "expresses concern about the Israeli nuclear capabilities, and calls upon Israel to accede to the NPT and place all its nuclear facilities under comprehensive IAEA safeguards... "

Israel refuses to join the NPT or allow inspections. It is reckoned to have up to 400 warheads but refuses to confirm or deny this.

which is kinda worrying and leaves the israelis on shaky ethical ground (that is what the western media babbles on about the other non NPT countries mentioned there isn't it?) doesn't it? just playing devils advocate here. i'm not sure how well the concept of mutual destruction holds up nowadays - is it enough to keep hands off the switch? i can see pros and cons to both sides here.

What makes you believe that a snippet from a common dreams website has true and acurate facts. I am not from Syria I just work here sometimes. I take an interest in whats happening, Im not talkig about 9/11 either I am mearly stating facts about the oil crisis in the "EU" and the strategies used against Iran to overcome Uranium enrichment facilities such as the recent sanction imposed against them. Off topic.

I agree with that, I think the other countries not part of the NTP have warheads only for protection and do not pose any threat to other, especially western, countries.

Iran because they are the fifth largest oil supplier in the world will use the nuclear weapons, to an advantage and use it as a bargaining tool as well as bullying other countries to get what they want.

my post may appear off topic but it certainly is not, if you follow the links and read the declassified material contained, (actual pdfs) you will see the plans for Iran long before 9/11; which was precursor to all of this. Iran is in fact just a "snippet" of a much bigger picture.
yes believing one site over another is paradoxical, I did say it is a place to start only. These links give a overview only and need to be considered to make an informed decision about the state of the world that we live in.

I have read the articles on the deception of the US that I already knew and understood 10 years ago. I am saying the links you posted are off topic in relation to the thread title.

I dont disagree, however, your comments on the plans for Iran long before 9/11, now that would be an interesting topic to discuss and would have no problem discussing it with you.

Yes totally agreed on the state of the world we live in, it is a "sorry state"

my apologies, i thought i was talking to someone who still believes "terrorism" is about democracy and safety and not about raw materials.
I will dig up said papers/links etc..
At the min i only have Iran plans dated 2005 on my hard drive. Ill dig this up for you (and earlier papers) after work. 8 am here.
to make a long story short: irans non existent nuclear program is just a carbon copy of Iraqs WMD's. it is another lie

Nuclear weapons are archaic. They exist but, making land useless. Some oddball loose cannon will no doubt attempt to use one but, you can bet they'll be bombarded with biological warfare.  NORAD was decommissioned a few years back which would indicate a lesser threat of nuclear warheads, or would it?

I dont think it was decommissioned, i think it was commissioned in 2006 therefore this would indicate a lesser threat, however thats for N.America and Canada only.

The threat of nuclear warfare in Europe and Israel is still prominent.

Maybe i'm incorrect on the decommissioning, I wasnt aware it was decommissioned.

That will be an interesting read. I find it hard to believe its a lie when four Iran scientists that are working at the Uranium Enrichment plant have been killed in the last two years. Killed by magnetic bombs attached to their cars, these are facts.

Whats suprising is the US have denied involvement in these attacks, Israel perhaps?

It's the uncertainty of a madman with the power to unleash one that's the most unsettling, what the retaliation would be and how thought out. I know during the 80's there was always this underlying dark cloud of WWIII just happening. Maybe it was a combination of things but, it definitely felt like someone could just start it, actually quite chilling at times.

I don't know if this is any different, it just seems that the counter attack if any would be something other than nuclear.

I can see it from my house. wink Literally. Cheyenne mountain is about 5 miles away and Peterson AFB is about 8.  Its still active but its not on the same alert system as it was during the 80s. Id say at least 50% of the old stand by silos have been shut down and that's nation wide.
