Did you go? Was it worth it and have you managed to use your degree to get a job you other wise may have not?

hmmm it is rather tempting I must say. Problem is I would have to do a open ended course with a large career scope as I dont want to be tied down to a small certain field. I was accepted for a course in media production but never went ahead with it.

Missus has just gone back to Uni to do a PT masters whilst holding down 4day/week job - she is VERY busy.2far

Iv been working in student accommodation recently and i must say they have been among the most arrogant useless twats i have ever come across, im not sure if its because they think they are better than me because im a electrician but it really pissed me off. They also seem to have no clue about anything like they have just come straight from being mothered.

I started a BSc in Sound Engineering & Design when I was 19.  The £4K+ I got through student loans, overdrafts etc meant I spent most of it off my head & playing on the new decks I'd bought.

Dropped out.  Regretted it ever since. Pisses me off when I look at my wage slip every month & see that I am now paying for it even though I have nothing to show for it.  I'm also in a job that I can tolerate but is extremely mundane. violent

Serves me right.

same. i fucked it twice, and yeah, serves me right.

Mark - most employers aren't actually looking for a related area degree so you should be fine with most subjects.

I wish i could be a electrician, If you are an electrician you are pretty much set for life, Electricians are always needed and they will always be needed, In every single country too so you can work anywhere you want really, I'd train to be one but i am not allowed by law because i have a sight impediment, I see greens and reds slightly different to everyone else, I cant do those eye tests where you have to see a number in the coloured dots frown

I went to uni, although never really wanted to go myself, got talked into it with the whole "you can't miss an opportunity like this" arguement.... student loans, overdrafts plus the job running the union bar I got while there meant I did pretty much the same as Venks, a massive shroom comedown was what made me finally ring home and say I needed to jack it in, come back and sort myself out munted

Daft thing is, after I'd sorted all my debts out, I did evening class's to train as a carpenter... what I had wanted to do instead, wish I'd stood my ground and not lost out on years of experience, but you live and learn...

Plus I did discover hard house at uni, so wasn't a complete waste laughing

Danny, think that's colour blindness mate, got it myself, pretty severely too, worst thing is, when I was at school, they did the test, then came in with 2 A4 sheets of paper, stacked with all the jobs I wouldn't be allowed to do because of it, doing that to a 10 year old kid, fucking wankers, I'll never forgive or forget that, basically they said you can be a bin man.

Haha yeah, I remember the list too at primary school, Wankers! haha

I'm not colour blind, I just see reds and greens a slightly different shade to everyone else. I still see them as red and green though, But obviously as electrians regularly go into electric boxes with shit loads of different coloured wires then i cant do that, Well thats what i was told, Not sure how many greens and reds there are in big electric boxes though haha.

I never went, kind of wish I did though, more and more vacancies seem to be demanding qualifications of some kind these days. I'm also the only one of four siblings not to do so so feel like I perhaps should've made the effort rather than dropping out of college and getting into the print. I've considered doing courses now but it's so expensive. Fuck it, if this mural/wall painting thing I'm starting kicks off fairly well I'll probably stop regretting it smile

I never went to uni & dont feel like i missed out on anything. Its no guarantee that you'll get a good job at the end of it but you are guaranteed to end up with a shit load of debt and no practical work experience.

Im not in a great job but it pays relatively well & its totally stress free - I fulfill my creative needs & feed my soul with activities outside of work. Im pretty content thumbsup

I got the necessary qualifications to get me into nursing; studied for 3 years to qualify, studied since to gain higher qualifications.
Had the time of my life whilst training, worked hard & partied even harder.thumbsup
Now it's degree based qualification for nursing now, good to come out with that but I feel some lack the general common sense that's required and some are keen to just deligate and not roll their sleeves up and get stuck in.

Music Style heaps of different shite

I am looking for a new job at the moment, and are finding that most employers are after a some sort of qualification rather than just experience.

Looking back I probably should have done something to help myslf out a bit...saying that I am doing okay.

Agree with the first bit to a certain extent.  The guy who sits next to me at work has a Masters in Computer Science and I have 'Did not complete degree' on my CV.  What I do have is 5 years experience - which can be as appealing to an employer, if not more in some cases.

I recently applied for a job in Manchester that has a company policy of hiring graduates & got an interview which went really well (should hear this week if I have got it biggrin).  It's a shame I don't actually enjoy what I do for a living though, definitely would have looked forward to getting up for work every morning if I worked in a recording studio or at a radio station frown

Too busy trying to put things up my nose or my widgey in anything that moved. thumbsdown
